Aegean Watertown

Is it worth a $50 groupon for $25 or are we better off sticking to Greek Corner?

After two sub-par experiences, I've vowed to not go again. And I'm Greek!

Last time I had a GroupOn. Our server requested my license and copied a bunch of stuff down. Then she asked me for my home phone #. Guess they've had a problem with invalid coupons. I was with a party of 5! Never again.

I've been to both many times. It all depends on what you want to eat. If the same thing is available at Greek Corner, that is probably your best bet as it will have more flavor. But at the same time, I've had some things at the Greek Corner that were nearly inedible due to over salting - Aegean will never serve you something overseasoned. ;-) Never had a horrible meal or service at the Aegean - overcooked lamb, maybe that's about it (same at GC) - fried seafood items have been good - I don't think its as bad some people depict it here, just not exciting enough flavor/cuisine for some chowhounders. The lemon potatoes at Aegean are a weakness of mine though - the Greek corner's was not even close to being as good when they had it as a special.

oh nooooo mr bill! i hope i've reached you in time, tweets. worse than you can imagine. we rued the day we set foot in there via groupon. Had we known we could have requested and received a refund fromGroupon for awful experiences (which we found out through a CH post and experienced w/ our 2 Rami's fiascos)we would have done that w/ Aegean. 'Meh' is way too polite a decriptor for that food.

                Their website http://www.aegeanrestaurants.com/aege...
                hints at a new menu.

Do restaurants get another shot, or are they judged then dismissed?

I've been since the menu change and its still the same place it was before the change. A couple of items may be different, prices are certainly "different", but basically the same food, staff, experience.

Personally, I think it's mediocre at best. Do a search on the board and I think you'll find others feel this way too. I'd stick to Greek Corner.

Greek Corner is definitely better but the groupon deal is worth it. Aegean offers dishes unavailable at Greek Corner and is worth a shot for the price. I've only been once and thought it was good enough (some just OK, some strong). I was glad to have mixed it up, although Greek Corner remains one of my favorites.

I like their lamb riblets, and the saganaki app.
