Mike & Patty's

FinnFPM Oct 2, 2012 07:04 PM

C. Hamster just mentioned Mike & Patty's in a thread, which reminded me: what's going on here? The lady and I stayed downtown on Friday night and were all pumped up to go for breakfast on Saturday, before I checked M&P's website... and discovered that they are closed "until further notice."

Anyone have any recent news on this? It appears that the hiatus has been going on for at least a month, if not more. This place is obviously pretty beloved so I'm sure that there are some interested parties on here.

I believe I saw something the other day that said Mike has retired and that one of the longtime employees is taking over in his stead, slightly refashioning the menu, etc.

Leah Mennies (@lmennies) on Twitter says that she's heard from Mike it is not permanent.

Didnt they close earlier this year then open up again?

I hope they didn't just up and close!

That sucks, but their location was awful - I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I was just thinking of making the trek there this week.

The location may have been awful in one sense, but was great in another, giving the place a real neighborhood feeling in the heart of downtown. And it and its predecessor (Rachel's Kitchen) survived there for many years. Rachel's closed only when Rachel and Alon sold the business to open Hungry Mother.

Hmmm - wonder what the story is...I do remember thinking that if they were located closer to the financial district I'd be there every day. Really amazing sandwiches.
