A few extraordinarily interesting black-and-white food-related photos from around the '40's are in the exhibit which have more character and depth than what we are seeing nowadays. I've found several from the show online:
Weegee, Max Is Rushing in the Bagels to a Restaurant on Second Avenue for the Morning Trade, c. 1940
Bernard Cole, “Shoemaker’s Lunch” (1944
Berenice Abbott, Zito’s Bakery, 259 Bleecker Street, 1937
Ida Wyman, Spaghetti 25 Cents, New York, 1945

Walking food tours in Oakland starting with Jack London Square
The Berkeley Sunday Streets thing today had some good food. A section of Vine St. in front of Vintage Berkeley was cordoned off and they were selling wine, and The Local Butcher Shop had a stand there selling really good sausage sandwiches. The Cheese Board was selling ricotta fritters from their to-go window.

Joel Pickford discusses his book, Soul Calling: A Photographic Journey through the Hmong Diaspora.
From the reviews, it sounds like this book touches on Hmong food and agriculture, among other things.
"From the rice harvests and funerals of remote Hmong villages in the mountains of Laos to the shamanic ceremonies and overflowing apartment-complex vegetable gardens of Hmong Americans living in Fresno,"
