Low key dinner in Santa monica
Hi looking for a spot for a low key dinner after a day of traveling. I had originally thought of FiG or tar and roses but I think something comfy with moderate prices and a good wine selection is what we are looking for. TIA adi

respectfully disagree with the recommendation of Nook restaurant.
if it were me, i'd absolutely stick with your original idea and go to FIG.
if you are trying to find a restaurant that has lower prices than those of Fig, i'd travel one town to the south of santa monica and go to LILLY'S FRENCH CAFE in venice.

Perhaps Warszawa on Lincoln near Santa Monica Blvd.--moderately priced but good Polish food, or JiRaffe at the corner of Santa Monica and 5th for Californian.

IMO, thumbs down on Warszawa - not that good at all.
Catch on the other hand delightful way to unwind but not cheap.
Agree re Fig and Zengo.
Also suggest Hillsotnes on 2nd and Wilshire for good drinks and service and an eclectic menu sure to have something to appeal to anyone and everyone. I go there to unwind with a martini and the french dip sandwich, rare.

Just over the border in WLA -- Nook Bistro. Good food, good service, excellent prices for the quality and quantity of food. Easy free parking.

Another anti vote for Nook - I don't like it there at all, either. I would suggest Locanda Portofino on Montana - great wine list, great italian food, very low key (not cheap though). I would also suggest Catch at Casa del Mar, which is always a great place to unwind.
Rustic Canyon stresses me out, it's so loud. Not relaxing at all, to me. Fig is a good idea.
