Hi looking for a spot for a low key dinner after a day of traveling. I had originally thought of FiG or tar and roses but I think something comfy with moderate prices and a good wine selection is what we are looking for. TIA adi

  1. Just over the border in WLA -- Nook Bistro. Good food, good service, excellent prices for the quality and quantity of food. Easy free parking.

      I'd agree.....

Rustic Canyon would be my first choice. I do not like Nook at all

Another anti vote for Nook - I don't like it there at all, either. I would suggest Locanda Portofino on Montana - great wine list, great italian food, very low key (not cheap though). I would also suggest Catch at Casa del Mar, which is always a great place to unwind.

Rustic Canyon stresses me out, it's so loud. Not relaxing at all, to me. Fig is a good idea.

    2. Zengo, in Santa Monica Place Mall
      Bodega Wine Bar
      Musha, Japanese izakaya
      Mercado, Mexican

      1. Perhaps Warszawa on Lincoln near Santa Monica Blvd.--moderately priced but good Polish food, or JiRaffe at the corner of Santa Monica and 5th for Californian.

IMO, thumbs down on Warszawa - not that good at all.

Catch on the other hand delightful way to unwind but not cheap.

          Agree re Fig and Zengo.

Also suggest Hillsotnes on 2nd and Wilshire for good drinks and service and an eclectic menu sure to have something to appeal to anyone and everyone. I go there to unwind with a martini and the french dip sandwich, rare.

But it's certainly not "cheap" either.....

        2. respectfully disagree with the recommendation of Nook restaurant.

if it were me, i'd absolutely stick with your original idea and go to FIG.

if you are trying to find a restaurant that has lower prices than those of Fig, i'd travel one town to the south of santa monica and go to LILLY'S FRENCH CAFE in venice.

Didn't I read somewhere that Lily's on Abbott Kinney was closing?

            1. re: nosh

I believe it closed on August 31st--but, you have to admit, it would now be hard to find lower prices!

                OH NO!!!!!!!
i now have to give up all hope of having their pesto-covered whitefish and their flamich tart ever again.
                Awwwwwwwwww

Lily's is gone - Wolf in Sheep's Clothing is moving in. They plan to open on Thursday. That space has one of the best patios in the area.

              2. If you can do an early dinner, FIG is 50% off from 5-6pm.
