New Canaan - South End

I am planning a girls night out in New Canaan (since everyone if from the surrounding areas). I have recently heard of a new restaurant in town, South End. I was wondering if anyone has been and am looking for some feedback. Thank you.

  1. I think Jfood did a review on CTbites.

    1. Did a girls night there last night. Food was good, service was terrific. There were six of us total. 3 did regular entrees (though they all happened to order the same thing--the pumpkin tagliatelle) and the rest of us did several small plates. The mini calzones were delicious but not true calzones (I believe they used wonton wrappers), meatballs very good but strong lamb which took me back a little. The figs were excellent and the fried artichokes good but a little too cut up so tough to get real bites (though the accompanying sauce was excellent). We also order two specialty cheeses (the manchego and another one as well as the wild boar sausage. Those were very small portions and pretty expensive for what we got. Atmosphere was nice--felt very New York. A little loud but it was fun. Waitstaff was terrific.

      1. We went a couple of weeks ago. Not very impressed, it was very very loud, lots of young kids, couldn't even hear the waiter speak and the place was half empty.
Food was okay, very expensive for what it was. Pasta with rabbit ragu was filled with tiny bones, was tasty, but that just made it unpleasant. Bolognese was decent. Salmon was cooked well, skin was nice and crispy, but it was totally unseasoned, no flavor at all in the dish. Entrees came out very quickly after the apps. We wouldn't return, but they seem to be doing a decent business.
