Le Gourmet European Bistro - North Wales
I believe this place has been around for a while. But for some reason, two coworkers and I just tried it today for the first time. The food, service and atmosphere are very good. The menu is eclectic--I'd say French + every territory France ever ruled; think Morrocco, Louisiana, various Mediterranean and Middle Eastern.
Although we agreed there were some very interesting menu options and specials (burger with exotic mushrooms, chicken with eggplant mousse, and others I can't remember), since it was a first visit we chose to order "standards." I got the Steak loin French Dip which unlike other French Dips I have had was, in fact, steak and not roast beef and was paired with a very mild imported swiss cheese on a very nice baguette. The jus was a port wine demi glace and was much better than the typical beef jus. The DCs had pannini (I forget which) that were also on nice crusty breads.
Rather than the usual chips or fries, the sandwiches were served salads of microgreens and diced cheese, tomatoes, etc with a really delicious dressing which we decided was a very good balsamic mixed with a hint of mustard.
Since we were time-constrained, we could not have coffee and dessert. However, we walked to the rear part of the cafe to view the desserts. It was a charming area set up for folks to just come in for coffee and dessert. The chef came out to describe each dessert (there were about 8, but as a chocoholic I only recall the chocolate creme brulee and chocolate raspberry cake).
It was sad that there were only 3 tables occupied. The food was not mind-blowing, but it was very good. And the prices were reasonable ($12 each with beverages and tip).
The added bonus is that it's only a few doors away from Alice's, so I stopped for a baguette for mom. (And that joint was jumping for lunch.)
So, has anyone else tried this spot?
We tried Le Gourmet for dinner quite some time ago and it was disappointing. We're local, but we've never gone back. They've been in business for a while. I hope it means they're doing something right. We will likely need a coupon incentive before we would try Le Gourmet again.
Thanks for your updated review. Perhaps a turn around? When in the area months ago I had asked about this place as it seem a good lunch option. Most all comments were negative. Good for them if they are improving their offerings.
