Destination Dogs - New Brunswick

New restaurant opened on Spring Street. Gourmet hot dogs, and while I'm not a hot dog expert in any way, enjoyed it. Working in NB we are always looking for new lunch places, and the service was quick and the food good.

I had the Gadiator and the truffle fries. Fries a bit on the salty side, but the dog was great. lunch mates tried the cheese fries and the cheese fries with gravy - not quite diner cheese fries, but good in their own right. Also they enjoyed the Oscar dog. Will definitely go into our lunch repertoire.

Yeah, me too. Let me know what you try and how it comes out. I'm thinking beef dog medley the first trip, fancy sausages the return trip. If I were being scientific I'd go with New York to get a baseline, but I'd rather jump right in.

Lunch appointment got postponed till today..

Parking is a pain in the neck, but we expected that, it's New Brunswick.. near the courthouse.. at lunch time..

It's a small place, a few seats on the window, and about 6 or 8 tables upstairs. I didn't see an elevator or anything.. so if any of you are handi-capped or have bad knees or whatever.. might want to get it to go if the downstairs is busy.

The small kitchen is open and looks clean, and neat and organized. The chefs (Owners) where dressed in Chef's Jackets. you can talk to them from the counter. They have bottled drinks and waters.

I'm a sucker for anything "Greek" Style, so I had the Achilles Meal and an order of chilli Cheese Fries.

My friend had the Le Poutine and the Truffle Fries.

I got to say that it is apparent that they use high quality ingredients and the cooking is done well. My lamb sausage was flavorful and juicy. The new-England style roll was nice and crisp, fried with butter on the grill. The toppings where just the right amount and flavor to complement the meat and not overwhelm it. On my drive home, i realized that the fries might have been fresh cut.. The chilli was not spicy.. which I like.. it added another level to the fries, not just chasing the spice.

My friend enjoyed his sausage very much, as well as the fries, however, he said the truffle flavor was a bit faint.

Main downside is that it is a bit pricey.. but just looking at the menu, you can see that this isn't a normal hot dog stand. I'd recommend to get two sausages, or maybe a regular hot dog and a sausage and fries for a full meal. (It is possible that I eat too much :-) ).

All in all, a great lunch and I will return. Definitely an out of the box dining place, a welcome addition to have close to my job.

The bun was briochey but very good. Thicker and taller than standard, which was nice except it was hard to get a single bite with bun+dog+toppings. The Cyclone was excellent, the Completo was also very good.

Definitely going back for the fancy ones.
