new mall or new market??

If a new mall AND a new supermarket were having their grand opening on the same day, and you could only go to one... which would it be?

I am NOT a mall person... only go when I HAVE to and then in and out. Did explore a big outlet place in Poconos with SIL and enjoyed it... but not something I need to repeat.

Wegman's, in my area, isn't "on the way" for about 90% of my shopping trips... unfortunately When it opened a few years ago (on a Saturday or Sunday), HADDA go. Remember it being COLD outside, parking in outer Mongolia, getting about 15-20 feet into store and turning around and going home. It was INSANE!! Came back a few days later (during the week) and had a ball exploring.

Have a Bottom Line (think that's what it's called) moving into old Super Fresh site that has been vacant for 2-3 years. Have been in one before. Had pretty much everything you'd ever need... maybe not a ZILLION brands of each, sometime brands that aren't in A or SF... other alternatives for food shopping in my area. You either bring your own bags or pay for them. Looking forward to their grand opening.

So what's your choice... mall or market?

New supermarket. Although I wouldn't go on Opening Day. Unless it was a "private opening" for a smaller group of people.

I mistakenly went to a Columbus Day Holiday weekend opening of a local H-Mart several years back. I made it in, but yikes, it was crazy. I did enjoy exploring, and I did buy some things, but wouldn't do it again. Without an invite to a private opening. :-)

yikes Linda, H-Mart can be kinda nutty on any given day. (but they are cool)

yeah, put me firmly in the "no grand opening celebration" camp. I can't stand the crazy traffic that ensues - both outside and within the venue. I'll wait until the furor dies down before shopping. :)

Do they tend to have special deals on items at supermarket grand openings? I don't care much for the clowns, jugglers and acrobats, though.

I agree with the rest- neither on Grand Opening day. The mall can wait till I need something. The grocery store, I'd go on the following Tuesday morning when the place is 1) cleaned up after the grand opening, and 2) not crowded, so I can take my time wandering the aisles to see what's interesting and different.

Put me down as another neither. A Wegman's is being built AT the local mall--they're taking a major portion of the parking lot to do so. It is not scheduled to open until Spring of 2013, but I already cringe every time I pass there. It's an already very congested area.

                I'm with Perilagu Khan. Neither.

I'd wait a few weeks for the hub-bub to die down and check out the new food store.

In the meantime. I'd shop at some of the "older" food markets in the area, hoping that some of the crowds had gone to the new place.

Malls are "meh" IMHO. No interest here.

I'd have to go with neither. I don't like the hurly-burly of grand openings one bit. Much rather wait for all the hubbub to pass and then enjoy a place in a more liesurely manner.

Having said that, I'd be more interested in a new supermarket than a new mall.
