What are you cooking today?

Fried clams, whole ones with bellies, not just strips.

We will be in Boston on a Friday night staying at the Colinade(sp?) Marriott. Is there any place nearby, maybe walking distance to find great fried clams?

The Collonade and the Mariott are two different hotels in two different locations, though not far from each other.

You might want to ask the front desk for directions to the place you choose.

I want to thank you all for your thoughtful responses. We will indeed have fried clams friday night while the wedding party does their rehearsal dinner & festivities.
And we owe it all to you !! Thanks again.

I don't love Jasper White's Summer Shack, but it is really close to the Colonnade and does very good fried clams.

You don't have to worry about finding strips at many places here. They're made with a different animal, the sea clam, and those seem beside the point with our local trove of excellent, sweet, fresh soft-shell clams.

I second Summer Shack as far as fried clams go...some of the best I've had.

as I mentioned above, and as MC and Anger seconded, if you want to stay near the Colonnade, Summer Shack makes perfect sense and does a fine job on fried clams - if you want a wider range of interesting seafood choices and some good bar cocktails, the farther walk to Island Creek may be worth it to you.

I've always enjoyed the clams at the Atlantic Fish Co which is a short walk through the Prudential Shoppes which are across the street from your hotel. When you come out the other side, you will be on Boylston St and it's just across the street. About a 5 minute walk. What ever you do, DON'T go to the Legal Seafood in Copley Place. It's horrible. For some reason the one in the Prudential shops isn't too bad, but with the Atlantic Fish Co a stones throw away from it, why stop.....

Fully agree that Atlantic Fish is a far better choice vs. the Legal Seafood.

Fortunately, most of the places you will find in Boston offer whole belly....osometimes called Ipswich...clams

Island Creek Oyster Bar. Its about a 15min walk or 2 stops on the Green Line from Copley, or 1 stop from Hynes Convention Center.

I like Island Creek but if you want to stay close, Summer Shack does whole belly clams and it's about 4 blocks from the Collonade Hotel.
