Dinner in Richmond's West End

My family and I will be heading to Myrtle Beach for our annual beach vacation and to visit relatives there but we leave western PA this Friday Sept 28 and are staying at the Holiday Inn express in Innsbrook and will be planning a quick trip to Trader Jokes as we have never been in one before and we love to shop for unique food items. But we will need to find a place for supper. Inexpensive is a plus. We all are in the mood for a good Pizza restaurant one that does wood fired authentic Italian margarita pizza with fresh mozzarella. But as long as its not fast food I am game even a nice diner would be okay. Would like to stay in the west end area but could go east on broad St for a good place.

Not sure I know any good wood fired pizza in the Far west end offhand, most pizza around there in my experience is so-so. I find the pizza in PA is in general superior to VA though there are exceptions, just none that come to mind near where you are staying. Also in general the area you are staying in is one of the "high end" areas, heavy on the chains and they tend t be more expensive than other parts of town in some cases.

Staying where you are, I would recommend for Italian Mama Cucina (or Cucima, seen it both ways) in the Shoppes at Innsbrook. Its a very small place though so you may have hard time getting in.

For down home food , I would do the Hogeshead Cafe which is (though their BBQ isnt that great I love their fried oysters, fried or blackened shrimp po-boys , fried green tomatoes, grouper nuggets , smoked prime rib po-boy , and many other things on the menu ) Their soups are often overlooked and always delicious the 8 times we have tried them. It is not far from Innsbrook on West Broad at 9503 West Broad Street Henrico, VA 23294. It does get very busy on Friday nights though as it is a small place but if you are able to get there before 5 it isnt a problem. I eat there about every other week, or at least monthly.

For gourmet burgers, you could go to Burgerworks - it is expensive for "just" burgers, but very good. Better than 5 guys, though a bit more expensive too. Burgerworks is very close to Innsbrook at 10321 West Broad Street Glen Allen, VA 23060. They have beer, in addition to really killer milkshakes (at least the dark chocolate one is killer good)

If you enjoy, or at least dont dislike spicy Szechuan, you should try Peter Chang's in (of all places) the Walmart plaza just west of Innsbrook. Peter is often mentioned online, this forum included. Chang's is cheap for lunch but dinner does tend to get expensive, and a Friday night will certainly be a line, but then again anywhere in Short Pump is going to be busy.

Someone may have some other options, especially for your pizza,
