Clam Chowder to go question

Hello, I am having a dinner party for out of towners. I am looking for the best clam chowder "to go" in the Boston area. What are your thoughts?

my favorite chowder in town is Charlies Kitchen. everyone i tell is surprised by this because their food is pretty low budget, no great shakes fare. but the chowder is great. not too thick, red bliss potatoes, bacon, touch of celery, lots of clams.

they do take out but depending on how much you want i would call them day before so they make extra.

Legals Seafood hands down. I got the chowder at Yankee and it had gritty sand in it.

I've been going to Yankee for years and their chowder has never had sand. Perhaps you're just used to the pre-packaged chowder they make at the legal's commissary on Monday which gets shipped to all their rests for the week. I've actually seen the bartenders slice open the plastic bags of chowder and pour it into the pot at the bar.

New England Soup Factory stands head and shoulders above the rest.

NE Soup Factory is also delicious but its a clam and corn chowder vs just being a clam chowder. To Libertywharf....Perhaps...but I never had sand in the chowder at Legals.

No you wouldn't have sand in legal's chowder, the perservatives dissolve it. Good for you that you like the chowder there. Personally I cannot eat chowder that is more then several hours old, never mind days old.
Once in awhile the chowder at Yankee is just fair. All places have their issues from time to time, but there's no excuse for shipping chowder in a plastic bag days before it will be served.

I haven't tried it, but Cyndi the fish lady offers clam chowder at the Brookline Farmer's Market on Thursday afternoons. Her fresh fish is great; I would expect the chowder to be good as well.

Yankee lobster on northern ave in the seaport district. Free parking in the rear. Go by and try it out, I promise you'll be happy.
