Local Source for Great City Ham

David Kahn Sep 26, 2012 01:29 PM

I've been buying ham from the Butcher Ship on Tremont, and it's great stuff, but lately, the availability has been spotty. Are there other good sources for high quality city ham around? Looking for something to use in soups, not country ham or prosciutto type product.

For reasonable selection and prices you might try Russo's if you have a car, just avoid it at peak shopping times. A while back a family member brought me the Niman Jambon Royale which is cured and smoked and might be nice for what you are looking for but its not exactly a city ham. Whole foods usually carries some Vermont hams so that would be my second choice. And Formaggio has great selections, but probably pretty close to Butcher Shop in price.
