2 questions for Fort Lauderdale chowhounds

  • 3

I'm visiting from Texas and have this hankering for coconut shrimp. We are staying on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, around 17th street I think. Any suggestions to quell my hankering? Also, is Primanti Brothers worth the price of admission, and can a non-meat eater find happiness there? (she eats chicken and fish, just not beef and pork.

  1. Aruba BeachCafe at the end of Commercial Blvd in Lauderdale by the Sea has a nice setting and good coconut shrimp.

Along 17th Street, there's Kelly's Landing which has good New England style seafood, but I can't recall if they have coconut shrimp. 15th Street Fisheries does have coconut shrimp on its dockside menu.

Primati Bros. has mostly meats, but they do have an sardine sandwich and a tuna sandwich and some salads. Here's a link http://primantibros.com/02menu.html The one near the beach is better atomosphere wise than the other two.

Primanti Brothers - If you want the Primanti sandwich experience, you could get a fried egg sandwich, or just get it with the slaw and fries without any meat, and there's always pizza, too. I agree that the beach location is the way to go.

    2. It's hard to beat Coconut's for both the coconut shrimp and the view!
