Food Tour

The thread about 6 months to live and the list of meals got me thinking of something my wife and I would like to do around New Orleans.

I would like to take a day and simply wander around the city eating one small plate/appetizer or split an meal plus cocktails/beers at about 6 to 12 restaurants throughout the city during that day. We would probably start near the riverbend area with our kids for a late breakfast (refuel or camellia grill) and then wander up to Audubon Park and get some exercise have a lunch somewhere uptown then probably drop the kids off around 1:00 in the GD with grandma and continue on our journey until sometime early that evening as we can't leave grandma for too long with two kids one being three months old.

I would ask this knowledgeable board to give us some suggestions on how you would do this type of day and keep in mind that we would probably do mostly walking/streetcar with a couple of cabs thrown in if necessary. We are both used to long walks so miles is not a problem. All cuisines and price ranges are fine for suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

I would start with some breakfast at Refuel, then hit Cooter Brown’s for a dozen oysters or try the duck gumbo at Restaurant One. Afterward, I’d take the kiddies over to the zoo for a little while. When you’re up for some lunch, hit Guy’s po boys and split a shrimp dressed. Enjoy a little light palette cleanser at Yogurtland. After you drop the kids off, head over to Coquette and eat a couple of apps at the bar. Follow that up with some turtle soup at Commander’s Palace and maybe split a bread pudding souffle. Then do a little shopping and browsing on Magazine Street. Stop into Sucre for one of their little mini desserts or a small gelato. Then head downtown for a some brussel sprouts and split a roast beef sandwich at Cochon Butcher. Walk around Julia Street and check out the galleries down there. Maybe head over to the Riverwalk and do a little shopping. When you start getting hungry again, see if Restaurant August will let you do a pick up order of those damn gnocci. After that, stop at Mr. B’s and sit at the bar and enjoy some BBQ Shrimp. When you’ve finished, make your way to Domenica and split one of their delectable pizzas or the squash blossoms if they’re in season. I would think it would be time to go home by now, but if you can fit anything else in your belly, head on up to Herbsaint and split an entree at their bar before heading home.

What ever happened to the riverbend appetizer/wine crawl?
