Taiwanese style cooking at Tao in Syosset

Tao, which replaced Empire Szechuan on Jericho Tpke in Syosset offers the usual pan-Asian mix of Chinese, Sushi and Thai but under the Chef Recommends section on the menu, you'll find more than a few Taiwanese offerings. I have absolutely no basis for comparison, but I did enjoy the Taiwanese Meat Roll, a dense loaf of ground pork (and maybe chicken) wrapped in tofu skin and deep fried, and Three Cup Chicken, a casserole of chicken on the bone, ginger slabs, whole garlic cloves and basil cooked with soy sauce, sesame oil and rice wine in a cast-iron pot. I'll go back to try some of the other offerings. A word of caution: service is abysmal. With a room full of empty tables we were told we had to wait 15 minutes. Another host seated us immediately, but we had to wait 20 minutes for someone to take our order. Our food was delivered haphazardly -- apps and one entree at the same time. I don't think it was deliberate. Rest of the Chinese menu was filled with Szechuan-style offerings.

  1. The only restaurant that I know that serves a chicken with ginger casserole on LI is the Orient and it is a decent version of the dish .Fortune Wheel my also serve it.This picture seems to show a great deal of oil in the dish which is unappealing. How was it?
