Bertucci's visit 9/23/12

We used to get to Bertucci's a lot, but it's been at least several months. Yesterday we hit the one in Herndon VA.
The food and service were both very good. We tried a new appetizer, Eggplant Napoleone. It was perfectly cooked eggplant, plum tomatoes, fresh mozz, crushed croutons, and a balsamic dressing nicely arrayed on a plate. Delicious and perfect for two to share. Then we got a large pizza, half margherita and half stella (which has roasted eggplant, red peppers, and portobellos). Quite good. However, sad to see they don't include the olive in the middle of the pizza any more. 8<(
The kids meals were a hit too. The Hoodsies add a nice New England touch.
I know the views of Bertucci's -- this one in particular and the chain in general -- are all over the place, and we have not always had great luck there, but this was a very good meal.
We haven't been to Bertucci's in years .We used to love an eggplant and mozzarella appetizer that sounds similar to what you described (but there were no croutons). Glad to hear they brought it back in some form.
I've had some very good meals at Bertuccis recently. I was a little disappointed when the recently updated their menu and my favorite salad was no longer offered, but found a tasty substitute.
Bertucci's used to be our go-to for sitdown pizzas. Reasonably priced, tasty, and consistent, unlike the greasy Pizza Huts, flavorless Dominos, sickly sweet Papa Johns, or vomit-inducing CiCis.
