Butcher with good wurst in Metrowest/North?

  • 3

My wife and I are throwing an Oktoberfest-themed party this weekend and I was wondering if there were any good places to get some traditional wurst to grill up (specifically weisswurst)? I live near Idylwylde, which I think has some but was wondering if any Chowhounders knew of a good butcher that has this stuff? Would also love to get some German potato salad to make things easier as well. Thanks in advance!

  1. Karl's Sausage Kitchen in Peabody is the place for you. If you don't want to go as far as Peabody, I believe Formaggio Kitchen makes weisswurst.

Karl's Sausage Kitchen does have a fine selection including weisswurst. Our favorite is the bauernwurst. We have had Oktoberfest parties and it is worth the trip to get a variety of these. If you call ahead they will ensure there are plenty for your event. They also have lots of Bavarian themed decorations - paper plates, tablecloths, flags, etc.

I also bought some bratwurst at the Copley Square Farmer's market last week that was very good - from Stillman's Farm in Lunenburg. You might see if they are appearing at a farmer's market near where you are: http://stillmansfarm.com/

      Have fun! Prost!

Much thanks! This is exactly the type of place I was looking for, and thankfully they ship, so I don't have to worry about finding time to trek out to Saugus/Peabody before the weekend. Will keep you posted on how it goes!
