Interesting article on Gran Reserva Riojas in the NYT

  1. Nice article. 1981 Prado Enea was the Rioja wake-up call for me and PE is still one of my faves. I really haven't liked any of the Torre Muga's that I've had.

I will confess . . . there *are* a few of the more "modern"-styled Riojas that I really enjoy, but there is something almost etherial about a brilliantly aged Gran Reserva . . . Lopez de Heredia, La Rioja Alto, *and* Muga's "PE" ALL do it for me!

Ditto. I've enjoyed a few vintages of Remirez de Ganuza and one particular label from Bilbainas that I can't remember (Vacalanda Pomal?) that were bordering on modern, but for me, I mostly side with the traditionalists... LdH, CVNE, La Rioja Alta, Contino, Riojanas, Ygay, PE.
