wine pairing and cooking classes?

Suggestions, please, for wine pairing classes and cooking classes in Mpls and St. Paul area. Thinking about holiday presents and would like to hear experiences.

Thanks much

Might not be present material, but the cooking classes with Laurel Severson (I think that was her name) through the Saint Paul Continuing Education program I took were great. Got to fool around with the food, get advice while you're working, etc.

I can't vouch for either of these but Surdyk's and St. Paul Cheese Shop both show them on their websites.I'm not sure whether the classes are at St. Paul Cheese Shop or the France 44 location (probably the latter.)

And, add Local D'Lish to the offerings of cooking classes.

I've taken classes at Cooks of Crocus Hill, Kitchen Window, Byerly's (years ago) and Coastal Seafoods (actually, that was a while ago, too). None of the classes I attended included wine pairings, but I would imagine most of these places make it happen now and then. IIRC their schedules are viewable at their Web sites. Really, all of the classes have been good. I would say the Coastal classes were lightest on ambience, but heaviest on practice and the quantity and variety of good seafood made the class well worth it. Kitchen Window has a really nice kitchen, new within the last couple of years, and lots of room inside and out (for grilling classes, etc.). Good luck!

Don't expect alcohol at Coastal. Cooks of Crocus Hill also sells gift certificates that can be used for classes, which is useful because they publish their class offerings just 3 months at a time.
