Oahu Restaurant Private Rooms for Small Wedding Reception

  • 5

I'm planning my wedding in January 2013 in Oahu and looking for a restaurant with a private room to host the reception dinner. We're a small group (12 people) and would like to have a dedicated space to ourselves. We're still pinning down hotel and ceremony locations, so we're open to any suggestions and willing to travel around the island (within reason-- maybe not North Shore). The menu needs to be varied-- our group includes vegetarians, pescatarians and carnivores. And of course, we want the event to be really special and memorable, so excellent food, service and ambiance are important to us. Thanks for any suggestions.

We had our wedding reception dinner at La Mer at the Halekulani Hotel, in a small private room with a balcony overlooking the ocean - perfect size for 12 people. The food was delicious - we worked with the hotel's event planner/chef to customize the menu to offer 2 entree options (meat and fish), and loved the wedding cake layered with a passionfruit jam. The service was superb - we were well taken care of and every need was immediately met, but without hovering waitstaff. Only (very minor) downside that I can recall is having to walk a distance through the restaurant to the restrooms, but that wasn't a big deal. You cannot have amplification for speeches or music, but we didn't want that anyway for our small group. It was pricey but worth it for our special day - everyone still raves that it was the best meal they ever had!

We had our "rehearsal dinner" the night before the wedding at the original Roy's in Hawaii Kai - the private room was too big for our group of 12, so we booked a long table in the main dining room and chose a special menu with the event planner. I wouldn't recommend the main dining room for a wedding reception dinner - it's a noisy space and not at all private. We also had to wait 30 minutes in the lobby, which was frustrating as it was a special occasion and everything was booked well in advance (I think an earlier group was taking longer than expected). But the food was delicious and it was fun for a more casual meal.

Hope this helps and best of luck to you!
