Furnace Creek Inn sounds overpriced and mediocre from what I could gather. I would pack good food and beverages for your day trip. Not sure if Tehachapi will be on your way, but linked a post below for a rec in that area. We will be visiting someone in Ventura and then driving out to DV from there in about 2 wks. so please report back w/ any finds. Enjoy the wildflowers!
