No, not asking about the oriental style steam buns ....
Those of you who have eaten Southern Style Crispy Chicken Sandwich at McD's know the type of bun I'm asking about...they call it 'Buttery Steamed Bun' -- are these made this way from scratch or is there a way to transform regular bun into this way?

Don't they just take a regular hamburger bun (or a smaller version thereof), and simply steam it?

lol, not quite sure what you mean by "from scratch"? this is what is in all of their sandwich buns:

Unbleached wheat flour, water, sugar, sesame seeds, yeast, vegetable oil, salt, soya flour, emulsifiers (sodium stearoyl-2-lactylate, mono- and di-acetyltartaric acid esters of mono- and di-glycerides of fatty acids, mono- and di-glycerides of fatty acids), preservative (calcium propionate), flour improver (ascorbic acid).

no butter at all in there.
