CNS covers Mot Na Son

Say what you will about him, I love that he's covering little mom and pop shops like this:

The hand pulled/hand cut noodles sound fantastic.

Soo.... Since CNS already got most of it covered, I thought I’d just wax on about my favourite dish from this small restaurant: number nineteen – the traditional Korean chip-shaped kneaded pasta soup; or, sujebi. The soup base is vegetable-heavy, with a clean taste and chunks of zucchini, sheets of seaweed, and tons of fat conch-like noodles. These noodles have a great chew to them and are the star of the show. They’re roughly shaped and simply delicious. With the weather cooling down, it’s the perfect time for this hearty bowl.

Though I order sujebi every time I go, other dishes that land on my table regularly are corn noodle, snails, and the pork bbq (pro-tip: wear clothes you don’t care about). Having a leisurely meal and drinks with friends is a great – and tasty – evening. Chris (one of the owners) is a great host and is happy to steer you right and tolerates my terrible attempts at ordering in Korean. He’s also just a really nice guy and I’m always happy to sit down at his table.

I've never even heard of this place, but it sounds yummy! One more place to add to my ever-growing list. For all of you who have been, have you ever gotten take-out always eaten in? Because I'd love to get take-out but I'm not sure how the food would fare.

Have not gotten take out! I think the snails and some of the other dishes might do okay for travel, but not many others. Mind, the menu is large, so there may be things there that I just haven't ordered.

That chip cut noodle is the best ever. I have yet to find a soul that doesn't love it. And I've brought a lot of peeps there in these last couple of years. Good. Stuff.

Love this place, but have never tried noodles there. I will try them out the next time I'm there.

Let me know what you think! It's such a good fall/winter thing. I also hope I don't regret sharing these places with a wider audience. I want the place to succeed (though it's been around for years), but I want them to stay delicious...

I only go occasionally, but have been going for years. Not once have I been there and said to myself "wow, it's busy here". So, no idea how he's stayed in business. I always assumed it was a labour of love more than anything.

And this isn't the first time they've had mainsteam media exposure:

My thoughts too!! Which is why I was like... hmn... share... not to share.. he's still in business, yeah?

I saw that he was featured there at some point, but it seems like a while ago and not at the height of this food-centric city that we have now...

jlunar, my basic rule-of-thumb is "nice people doing a good job deserve to be recognized". This applies to everything in life. You shouldn't worry about the effect of publicity. Eventually it dies down and settles into normalcy that, with any luck, shows an uptick in the regulars count. Sometimes residents of the immediate area surrounding a restaurant don't know what's under their own noses. Its for them you should keep writing.

I haven't read the review yet, but, on his twitter he gave credit to our own jlunar for telling him about the place.

I also love that he's covering mom & pop shops.

I really like the dishes I've tried at Mot Na Son. Generous dolsot bibimbap.
Plan to either take home leftovers or schedule time for a long, post-meal nap.
