beet - new ues restaurant at 84th and 2nd

new restaurant in the old pepe patron/jasmine place at 84th and 2nd... ive passed by a few times in the last two weeks and have seen them progressing. they posted a menu earlier in the week touting that they were organic. lots of sandwiches and burgers that sounded delicious... organic milkshakes... they have a usda logo on the menu.... looked like a soft opening last night. they had a sign posted on the door that said they are opening tonight. anyone know anything?

i googled but havent seen any info or buzz. lots of pubs, italian restaurants, mexican restaurants, and asian restaurants but not so much new american food in the hood so im excited and desperate and hungry for something like this.

I went for a drink on the Sunday afternoon after Sandy and they had actually run out of white wine. All of it. Can't blame them, I guess. The room clearly had leftover decor from Pepe Patron, and the menu and wine list fell pretty flat. Haven't been back since. Hope they've stepped up their game a bit.

passed by it last weekend and they've closed for renovations and to revamp the menu. not a good sign, but we shall see.

      2. I ate there about a month ago.

It was pretty bad. Nothing memorable really - I had the signature burger. It was a sloppy mess, didn't have much flavor, the bun was bordering on stale. The fries were tasteless.

My wife ordered some eggs. They didn't have any toast, other than white bread. Then they came by to apologize because they didn't have sausage. Except, she didn't order sausage.

Despite the restaurant being about 90% empty, we had to flag down one of the several waitresses several times to get basic things like a knife, ketchup, water.
