Going there for the first time in probably 20 years -- anything particularly good? Anything I should avoid at all costs?

Well the decor has certainly improved since my last visit in the 1980s -- we enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer and the kibbeh. Also enjoyed the grape leaves, but I was glad I was sharing the order. It's offered as an entree, but I do think I would have been bored with them long before I finished the dish.

Service was fine and the evening enjoyable.

Get an Arak and a selection of mezze, maybe throw on an order of grape leaves(with the lamb) and you will have a great meal.

A couple of pastries and an "Arabian" coffee and you will be good to go.

Mix it with room temp water, then add an ice cube or two. It is my favorite anisette.

If you don't like anise, get an Almaza, it is a Lebanese beer that goes well with mezze.

I had a layered eggplant dish that was fairly lame. Last time I was there I tried to order the kibee nayye. Three times the waiter came back and asked me if I really wanted the kibee nayee. Finally, a manager came by and said they were out of it.

I've walked by that place a thousand times, and read good reviews, but somehow never trusted it. Glad I went with my instincts.
