Dinner recommendations with clients

I will be in Chicago for the first time next month for a convention at McCormick. Will be staying either at Palmer House or Chicago Hilton. Looking for interesting, moderately upscale (<$50 pp food) restaurants for dinners with clients on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. Would prefer close by, either walking distance or short cab ride. Open to any sort of cuisine. One client in particular likes authentic experiences, i.e., not fancy but great food and atmosphere.

Let me know if I need to provide more information! I am trying to become familiar with the area in a short amount of time!

Help a girl out?

Mercat a la Planxa would be a good bet.

I agree that Mercat a la Planxa, the tapas restaurant, is a good choice if you're at the Hilton Chicago on South Michigan. Another good choice in that area is Custom House Tavern. And if your clients would appreciate our delicious local specialty of deep-dish pizza, Lou Malnati's is close by at 8th and State.

If you're at the Palmer House Hilton, good choices nearby include Vivere (the Italian restaurant on the ground floor of the Italian Village complex), Atwood Cafe (contemporary American in the Hotel Burnham), Petterino's (steakhouse), and Pizano's on Madison (deep-dish pizza). You could still consider Mercat a la Planxa and Custom House Tavern, but they're both a bit further (12-15 minute walk); other good options that are a similar distance from the Palmer House Hilton in the other direction include Sable (contemporary American small plates, craft cocktails) and Piccolo Sogno Due (Italian).

Wow, thank you both! Mercat a la Planxa was on my list just from browsing the forums! Glad to get the direct recommendations! I will check out the other places you mentioned. I especially want to try the deep-dish pizza.
