Search screwy

I was looking to respond to a message related to "Arlequin" cafe, and forgot which thread it was on in the SF board. I typed in the keyword "Arlequin" into the search box and the thread, which I'd read only a few hours ago, didn't show up at all. The thread also didn't appear in the recent history of user "grayelf," whose post from 5 hours ago was to what I was planning to respond to. The thread, however, show up in my recent history. Any idea what's going on?

I've basically given up expecting the CH Search engine to be thorough and usually go over to Google to look for stuff on Chowhound using the site-specific query string formulation.

I just did another search on CH using a particular search string (5 year period) with search terms within double quotation marks, plus a particular user (me). 11 results. The same search on Google using the site-specific formulation gave 12 results, including the one I was actually looking for but which did not show up in the CH search. (The desired thread is not a locked thread and is only 10 months old. I knew it was there so when CH search did not turn it up I simply went to Google and there it was)

Here's another example:

A search for "ja choy" on Chowhound returns 4 results (all years). On Google I get 5 results, including the thread (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/857367) I was looking for on CH but which did not turn up in the CH search.

Search is pretty seriously hosed. I've had to switch to Google to find things I know are in there.

Being somewhat of a research nerd, I just tried the search, via Greyelf. It does show that he responded to the thread, but on page 4 of his activity, presumably, dating back to the first post 8/11/12.

As for the word search, I was also unable to get to that thread. The "newest" thread that contains the word "Arlequin" is one that was last commented upon on 09/04/12,

So, are searches and activities, on a time delay, ChowHound team?
