Cafeteria (Main and 11th) closed

I was suprised to hear that the last service for Cafeteria, one of the Durbach/Stewart restos, was Saturday, September 15th.

I hear they are keeping the space, just re-branding it.

Maybe it'll be called "Commissary" ;-)

Funny, I was told yesterday it's been sold. Normally a re-branding a la Maenam and ReFuel won't lose any time in getting the word out to maximize the PR.

Nope, it is sold. Here's a note from a recent e-mailer:

        "Dear Patrons of Cafeteria,
After a couple of pretty good years at Cafeteria, Chris and I have decided to accept an offer to buy the restaurant. We've enjoyed meeting you all, and are pleased to have had the opportunity to share with you our passion for food and wine. It has been a real privilege to be a participant in the Main St. community, but it's time for us to move on and pursue other interests. So, thank you very much for all your support over the years, and we hope to see you again at one (or all!) of our other restaurants: La Buca, Pied-a-T erre and The Sardine Can. We'll keep you up-to-date about what's next via this newsletter or you can Like us on the Sardine Can and Pied-a-Terre Facebook pages.

Thanks again, it's been a pleasure,
Andrey Durbach & Chris Stewart "

And I haven't even gone there yet.

They tweeted about a 'nasty water leak' a few days before they closed. Related?

That is a surprise. I haven't been since they first opened. Maybe focusing on other projects such as Sardine Can?

              :(
That is surprising - it was always busy when I visited. Great food too. RIP
