ISO quality ground beef in Philly, a la Freida-esque blends to use at home

I'm in charge of the burgers for a party this weekend, and I want to come correct, but I don't have a grinder, and I don't necessarily feel like being high-maintenance and making up a custom blend at the butcher. Does anyone have any knowledge of good blends or simply the highest quality ground beef in Philly? Preferably Center City/S. Philly area.

Thank you

  1. See if Garces Trading Company is still carrying the logs of ground beef that they use at Village Whiskey. They used to have them in the meat case there.

+1 for VW if they still do that, you can also grind your own burger blend in a food processor, I've made this blend before with good results: , though I wouldn't want to make burgers for 20 people that way.

    2. Good call on Garces Trading Co. They do sell the meat at $10.49/lb. Now I have to figure out if I want to spend the extra $50 and get fancy or not.
