Anniversary Dinner in Maui

ocfrugalfoodie Sep 18, 2012 09:20 AM

My husband and I are going to Maui for the first time for our wedding anniversary.

We plan on eating local/small restaurants, mostly. We mainly want to eat reasonable and local but we want to splurge for our anniversary. We don't want anything that we can find in Orange County/Los Angeles Area. Thinking of Plantation House for breakfast one day, Sea House as well for lunch or breakfast. Gazebo as well. Anything else we MUST try on Maui?

We can't decide where we should go for dinner for our anniversary (which is on a Monday) we love good food and good wine and are willing to spend $200-$250 for both of us. With wine. Is Leilani's (I know owned by Dukes) a good ambiance for an Anniversary dinner? We would like something special.

We are staying on Kanapali beach. But we will have a rental car all week.

Thanks in advance!

I think that lunch or breakfast at the Sea House is a good idea. We had dinner there back in June and I thought it was very mediocre. The view of Napili Beach (same beach you see from the Gazebo, opposite side) can't be beat. Mama's Fish House in Paia is also a great option for lunch. The view is gorgeous and dinner might be over your budget. It's about a 45 minute drive from Ka'anapali. Have you considered Merriman's for dinner? It's just a little north of the Sea House, has a beautiful location on Kapalua Beach, and has good food and wine. I think you should be able to stick to your budget there if you don't go too crazy with wine. Have a great time!

Mama's is always high on our list, but with the mention of wine, that is a bit of a trek. To get around that, a few years back, we stayed at The Inn at Mama's Fish House, and had no regrets. We got to dip deeply into their wine list, with no issues.

Sounds like you are on West Maui, based on the breakfast restaurants listed (we have done them all, and have enjoyed them all).

For that anniversary dinner, here is my short list, and it is sort of broad-spectrum:

      Merriman's Kapalua
      Gerrard's, Lahaina
      I'o, Lahaina
      Lahaina Grill, Lahaina

I would have suggested Banyun Tree at the Kapalua Ritz-Carlton, but they have been redone, and we have not dined there yet.

      Enjoy, and Happy Anniversary!
