Challah Bread

tdombrow Sep 15, 2012 04:46 PM

Just checking to see if anyone out there knows of a place where I can get a nice Challah. I searched the boards, but there was no mention. Any ideas?

Upper Crust for sure. They are one of the only places in town that makes truly good challah.

Whole Foods has Challah knots (dinner roll size) too. Good for mini sandwiches.

Sweetish Hill Bakery makes it, they have a stand at Mueller Farmers Market. Haven't had it but it looks great and their Ciabatta was super.

When I don't make it myself, I usually get mine from Great Harvest Bread Company in the arboretum area (near HEB). It is the sweet kind. And they only have it on Friday's.

This stuff's common. All the speciality stores, Whole Foods, Central Market and Sprouts carry it.

I would try the HEB on Far West with the Kosher Area or the Randall's on Balcones which has a kosher bakery. Central Market and Whole foods carry it as well. Sometimes you can find it at Great Harvest, but I would call them first before heading out. Good luck!

I've seen it at Central Market south, at least. Top shelf just to the right of the bag-your-own breads. Some breads they only make on certain days so it can't hurt to call.

Upper Crust. Blue Baker has one too.
