Tomatoes for saucing and canning - price?
I'm trying to figure out where I might be able to find large amounts of slightly bruised or soft tomatoes to can and make sauce with. I've just moved to NY, but back in Texas, farmer's would have big boxes for less than a dollar a pound, but so far the best I've seen here is a 5lb basket for $12. Is that the best I can expect? Or is there some other place I should go to find what I'm looking for? Any advice would be much appreciated!

You can do a lot better. I was at the Greenmarket on Broadway up at Columbia today; someone was selling "damaged" tomatoes for $1/lb. And a lot of people had vine ripe tomatoes for $2/lb.
