Where are the best fish tacos in Philadelphia

I have been in love with fish tacos since a reined introduced them to me in Seattle at the Market. Where do you like to go??

We moved the op's reply with a salmon taco recipe to the Home Cooking board - you can find it here

Pure Taco (20th and Chestnut) has made to order fish tacos that are really good, also everything there is gluten free. I also really like the fish tacos at National Mechanics (3rd between Market and Chestnut).

I have actually been enjoying the beer battered fish tacos and burritos that they'll make fresh for you at the Whole Foods on South Street.

Where do you order these, at the deli counter?

In the back, where the prepared foods/deli counter is, on the far right, between the prepared sandwiches behind the glass and the ones in the case you can grab yourself. I think most recently it was pizza by the slice. Now it's burritos and tacos. $6/burrito or 3 tacos.

No, but, they don't keep much of it. So, it's probably not been sitting there long if they have it. It goes quickly on the weekends and I'm guessing at lunchtime during the week, but I'm not usually there then. On Sunday, we arrived just as they were bringing out a fresh batch.

Although, I've never asked if they would fry it to order, anything's possible.

Sounds like its South Street Whole Foods answer to the Taco Truck on the roof at the Plymouth Meeting Whole Foods.

They've been rotating through various made-to-order foods that they offer at larger stores, I think they are trying to find the one that sticks. The pizza was/is pretty awful.

Make t hem yourself. Cabbage, battered fried fish, crema, pretty easy.

The ones at El Zarape aren't very good - that's my only contribution. The fish tasted straight from your grocer's freezer.

Depending on how bad you want them, I can vouch for this Jersey shore special. http://www.surftaco.com/ -- i've driven the 70 miles to get a few of their signature Surf Tacos.

There was an item on Foobooz about fish tacos and some comments posted with a few others. Check them all out and tell us what you think. Tacodelphia might be of some help too.

Definitely try Honest Toms, but fish tacos are a special not a regular item. Call ahead to see if they have them.

The fish taco scene is pretty depressing. Nothing like the fresh fish tacos you get out west that taste like they were just pulled from the ocean. To answer your question though I'm pretty sure Disitrito has a decent one if I remember correctly. The wife and I just went to Alma de Cuba and as an appetizer had insanely good smoked marlin tacos. They are tapas sized but have great flavor.
