Newburgh Brewing Company-- Beer lovers take note!!!
Another recent thread reminded me I never wrote about my trip up to this brewery, which is still in its infancy, but is an incredible beer destination in the Hudson Valley!
This historic building with views of the Hudson used to be a paper factory. The owners put months and months of work into retrofitting the lower floors of the building into the brewing headquarters. This included tearing out some of the original wood floors, which they repurposed into different pieces in the tap room (tables, benches, counters, bar, etc.). The taproom is stunning. We walked in and immediately were taken aback by the loftiness and unique style of the room. It's enormous, spacious, welcoming, and the owners painstakingly renovated it while preserving a lot of the interesting original features. Enormous long wood tables with long benches are spread throughout the tap room, where you can relax with delicious beer, local food, and a hearty supply of board games.
The beer is brewed by a Brooklyn Brewery veteran and while they don't have too many beers yet (only a few months old) some of them are really impressive. I like the cream ale (that seems to be their default "flagship" beer) but they are very proud of their brown ale too, which just received high honors from Beer Advocate. Others we enjoyed were the gose and the stout. Ask for a tour even if they're not officially offering one and if you are lucky you'll receive a personal, detailed, and passionate tour and history of the building and the brewery. (We did and it was awesome!)
As for food, the menu's limited, but with locally sourced products. The grilled cheese is fabulous and the salad I had with it composed of ultra fresh local greens. The sausage and peppers was a bit too spicy for me, but my husband liked it. I'll be trying the mussels and cheese plate next time.
This place is AMAZING and I highly recommend it!
I haven't tried their food yet, but I tried a few of their beers at The Golden Rail Ale House and finally made it to the brewery itself 2 weeks ago. I loved the taproom - it has a beer hall feel to it! Their Saison is my favorite. Very drinkable.
Good to hear! Love that most of their beers are sub 4.5% ABV as well.
We'll have to plan a weekend trip up there soon with a trunkload of empty growlers in tow.
