La Table d'Eugene reopens with energy
Another fine dinner at Eugene last night. Starter of crab with Pampol beans and grilled squid spiked with verbena jus and herb sprouts. We mopped up every drop. On to quail for me, leg quarter confit with cassis, silky blood-rare breast served with braised rhubarb, beet puree, grilled fig; it looked like a valentine on the plate. Again, wiped the plate clean. DH ordered a half lobster with eggplant and lemon confit, very good but mine took all the awards at least as far as I was concerned. We both would have enjoyed our desserts more (pinion sable with extraordinary glazed figs and peach glace) had we not been so stuffed already. Maillard is not only good, he's very generous!
With 4 glasses of St. Joseph (white and red) and a half bottle of Badoit, tab was 128€. Sweet service from adorable and professional Catherina. Eugene remains my husband's favorite room.
