Epicurious Magazine List of Top London Restaurants - Good for travellers and others?

Someone sent me this article, and I thought I'd pass it on to anyone interested in the comments. It's probably a good starter for those travelling here and wondering where to eat.

I got taken to a Jamie's Italian in Oxford once. Had a black risotto that was not half bad, and the host was a genuine Italian human being.

Looks like a generally good list (although the inclusion of Jamie's Italian does make ya wonder!)

I suspect that there would be many who would also query the two "Indians". Even as a tourist visitor to the capital myself, they wouldnt be the two on my list.

That said, I have always wanted to eat at Veeraswamey as it's the place that sort of ignited my initial interest in Indian food. My much older late cousin used to come to London on business in the early 1960s and would always have a meal there - he came back with the stories of the exotic food and the waiters in exotic Indian clothes. Bear in mind this was a time pre-dating most of the South Asian immigration to the country and it would be some time before there were Indian restaurants in our area for me to try.

I got the feeling, John, that the list was compiled by an American food writer who perhaps made a trip over to check things out or else depended on word of mouth etc. Jamie is a big name in the States as is Gordon Ramsay.

John - agree it is a pretty safe list for a US tourist. On Veeraswamey, I did like it when I went a few years ago. I have similar nostalic associations with the place as my parents went there in the late 1940's.
