Cellar Bar and Grill in Kearney, Nebraska
Let me start by saying I was really excited to try this place. Apparently the burger won a state award, and on a road trip sometimes looking forward to something is a nice escape from staring at cornfields for 10 hours.
Driving from Minneapolis we arrived around 1:15pm. We were seated quickly which was nice. Promptly a waitress came over to take our drink order. Two waters. Easy enough. When she came back with our waters, we ordered the soup of the day as a app to be served before our meal, and 2 signature burgers w/ a large order of onion rings emphasizing we wanted the onion rings to be served with our meal. I also ordered a Raspberry Iced Tea at this point.
Approx. 10 minutes later onion rings arrived at our table. Odd. We ordered them with our meal. When we got the waitresses attention we let her know of the mistake. "Oh your soup is sitting on the counter, I will get it". Nice, so when it came it was lukewarm and had a film on top since it was sitting for some time. But it was actually good soup, so that was at least passable. The onion rings were taken away when the soup was brought out so we assumed we would get fresh onion rings when our burgers were served.
We finally got our burgers and onion rings. Odd, we ordered the "Signature Burger" - the one with bacon and cheese that had won the award as it was clearly called on the menu. The one we were served was plain. The waitress tried to tell us she brought us what we ordered, but my wife proved her wrong by simply showing her the menu! When coming back from looking for a bathroom (explain later) she heard the waitress tell the cook to add some bacon and cheese. So, basically our medium burgers came to us dry, cold and well done and the cheese was not melted. Which brings me back to the onion rings. She brought us the same onion rings she had brought us earlier so we sent them back and asked for fresh ones since they were cold and unappetizing. The "fresh" ones tasted like our original ones had been thrown back in the fryer. The breading tasted like someone crushed up Wonderbread and coated onions in it and fried it in 1/2 water, 1/2 I Can't Believe its Not Butter. HORRIBLE!!
You ask where my iced tea is throughout all of this? I had to ask for it again because she forgot about it. Oh and the bathroom. Apparently it doesn't work. Customers are instructed to walk across the street and go to another business.
The waitress didn't even apologize for anything or offer to comp some of our meal. She treated us like we were the ones that made the mistake and basically brushed us off as pain in the butt customers. Honestly the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant in my entire life. DO NOT GO TO THE CELLAR BAR AND GRILL IN KEARNEY, NEBRASKA. I can make a better burger on the Foreman I had in college.
