NoMad brunch - They nailed it

Spiritchaser Sep 10, 2012 06:18 AM

Went to brunch at The NoMad on Saturday since we were still around from the night before at EMP, thought it would be fun to be there on the launch day.

We were literally the first diners in the room when service started at 11:00 and for maybe 15 minutes we were a little concerned that maybe word didn't get out they were serving brunch (we aren't really brunch people so we had no idea when peak time would be), ultimately it was pretty apparent word did in fact get out because it was plesantly full in the Atrium.

So, the menu is smallish but with enough diversification to please just about anyone. Also, they highlight four speciality Bloody Mary variations, we tried two of them, the beet and the Caesar, I preferred my Caesar although GF's beet was wonderful and had some seriously nice heat to it.

GF had the omelet which she said was excellent, also had a side order of the squash with black truffle (if you go, this is a MUST order, it will turn out to be one of those dishes that was probably meant to be a supporting cast member but deserves to be on the marquee with the other stars). I had, of course, the chicken sandwich, there were other items I had my eye on but I had to know how the sandwich would translate and I have to say it translated exceptionally well. I guess it was serious collabaration and maybe trial and error but it was spot on, the right bread, the right amount of chicken, the presentation. And from the looks of what we saw going to other tables it was wildly popular (in retrospect, completely understandable).

I think I can say with the possible exception of one dinner in the Parlour room this was the best service we have ever experienced at The NoMad. Super attentive, genuinely interested in opinions. Water was never allowed to go dry, coffee was constantly refilled, maybe easy when it was empty in the room but even when it filled up the service never suffered.

All in all, great experience, hard to believe it was the first day, it could quite possibly turn us into brunch eaters.

I'm so glad they created that chicken sandwich! I'm kind of unwilling to shell out for the full blown dinner version and now I get to have a taste of the sandwich incarnation as well. This is definitely on my to-do list. Thank you for the report!

Just one question, do they serve the lovely bread (they normally give you during dinner) at brunch as well?

No, no flat bread with what we had but I don't want that taken as the definitive answer, there are several items on the menu that skew more towards lunch and maybe the bread would accompany them?

I've had the chicken at dinner before and I can honestly say you will get an excellent representation of it with the sandwich.

And I forgot to mention it comes with a simple little side salad with crispy chicken skin bits.

That sounds wonderful! Will definitely need to make a reservation for The NoMad brunch. Did they have the dessert trolley at brunch? I love their Kouign Amann. Planning to return for dinner at the end of this month.

I'm so happy I read you review right before we stopped in for brunch last Saturday. I agree the Chicken Sandwich was spot on (thank goodness) but the Squash really did steal the spotlight. It was incredibly wonderful I want to go back just for that dish alone. Thank you for doing a write up Spiritchaser. I probably wouldn't have ordered it otherwise.
