Ciel de Paris

We had lunch today with the godfather of Paris food blogs and he suggested Le Ciel de Paris which has recently re-opened. All fiduciary doubts were relieved when I saw a 3 course €38 lunch menu with 4 choices in each category and when we arrived our co-hound had already ordered a very drinkable €25 bottle of wine...my credit card quit fluttering. The restaurant is elegantly decorated and sits on the 56th floor of the Tour Montbuttugly. Co-hound had secured a window table and the clear skies presented us with a marvelous view over Paris. Our starters were nicely done crevettes roses over quinoa enhanced with coriandre for 2 of us and a large salad with smoked duck breast, fried quail eggs and sot l'y laisse which are those scrumptious little nuggets from the back of a chicken. The 2 main courses were a bit of a let down, good quality but overcooked,rabbit loin wrapped in bacon which was too dry and a slice of gigot d'agneau, which I ordered rare but was served well done. Desserts were 3 miniature Paris Brests and something called a Bayadère, brightly colored layers of pistachio, vanilla and raspberry mousse with raspberries on top served with raspberry sorbet on a bed of crushed pistachios. The service was pleasant and competent, the company way above average and on a clear day for this price I would happily return but choose a seafood main rather than over cooked meat dishes. If you go please take note that this special is only at lunch and if you order à la carte bring 2 credit cards.
