Vegan visiting Lisboa for a few months

i am living in Lisbon for a few months and i'm hoping to connect with other vegans. i'd like advice on places to buy groceries, affordable places to eat out, and any connections with the vegan social scene or a few visits over tea to talk about the city and things to do. fyi i don't speak portuguese but i'm trying to learn a word or 2 while i'm here.

I don't know if you'll consider this affordable, but I was surprised to find on the menu of La Brasserie de L'Entrecote (they have 2 locations in Lisbon) a seitan version of the meat entrecote that is their house specialty.

However, my Portuguese is not good enough to discover from reading the online description if the sauce that accompanies the seitan is suitable for vegans. Maybe somebody you know can translate.

I'm sorry I didn't try it when I was there, because I didn't think all that much of the meat version. I did splash out an a really excellent red wine recommended by the server. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very fancy fancy.

About the sauce of the seitan it is teh same a sserved with the entrecote. All it says is that they serve it with the "Sauce Brasserie", a secrete mix of 18 ingredients, which includes a selection of spices... i.e. not very helpful, sorry.

It tasted extremely buttery to me so it might not work for a vegan.

Trilingual Chef José Avillez in Portugal does some lovely vegetable tasting cartes.

He owns a couple of Gastro Bars in Lisbon, in Barrio Chiado.

      Have fun.

Where are you living in Lisbon? Celeiro Dieta at Rua 1 de Dezembro 65 (near Metro Rossio or Chiado) would probably get you started on your grocery shopping.

Here's a list of eateries and cafes. My (limited) experience of Lisbon is that locals are pretty good at conversing in English:
