Toughest reservations in the city?

Schweinhaxen Sep 6, 2012 11:33 AM

Curious to know what the current "tough" reservations are in LA? I think Laurel Hardware is still tough, as well as Totoraku. But what is out there...... I need a challenge for this evening...... ;)

I'd say Gjelina. It's a little different than the other restaurants that are open late since they serve a different, smaller (and not as interesting) menu after a certain hour. Getting a reservation for the regular menu has been the toughest for me

Animal definitely tough at the last minute. But L.A. folks are always "multi-reservationing" and canceling (if they actually bother to call and cancel, that is) at the last minute. ;-D>

It depends on how much you plan in advance. Ink uses OpenTable, and even now I can get a table for 4 at 9:30 PM tomorrow night and at 10 PM or 10:15 PM on Saturday night. Not necessarily optimal times, but doable.

Midweek - was easy to get 7:30 or 8:30 last minute based on my visit last week (small sample)

I've had good luck as a walk-in to Son of a Gun every time I've gone (haven't had the foresight to make reservations).
Agree on all the others and will add Pizzeria Mozza and Angelini Osteria from my own experience.

True...in fact I did that last night. At 7:30, no wait at all, for 2. But to make a reservation for a decent sized, say 4, party, is no mean feat.

If you have the "correct" Amex card you can get a table at Pizzeria and Osteria Mozza (and some other restaurants) at the same day.

If you are OK with dinner around 9:30 or 10pm it's often not that difficult to get a reservation at Gjelina or Animal at the same day or a day before
