rub ideas for tangy mustard barbecue sauce

I was in San Luis Obispo this weekend and picked up a bottle of mustard based barbecue sauce from Mo's Smokehouse. Any ideas on types of rubs I can make/purchase for barbecuing ribs or chicken? Maybe one that is not paprika based (I already have one of those). Thanks

  1. I would use my normal rub, but just omit the ground mustard, and use less black pepper. My normal BBQ rub is kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, thyme, and lesser amounts of oregano, white pepper & ground mustard. You probably could omit the mustard & smoked paprika though. Just experiment with a few variations to discover what combination suits your tastes. Good luck, I love Carolina BBQ sauce,
