Loved this place last year, this year lived up to our memories of it, with a few exceptions.
Last year we sat at the private balcony table, but as it was chilly when we went (Saturday night of Labor Day weekend) we didn't ask if it was free. We were seated at a table in the bar area, which was fine though it got very loud as the night progressed. I had the special starter of a watermelon, toasted sunflower seed and burrata cheese, it was lovely. My husband had the grilled, marinated callimari with beans, chorizo, and Kalamata olives, which he loved.
For my main course I had the Peking duck which came with the breast and a leg confit, quinoa, baby bok choy and a wine sauce. It was wonderful. My husband had the beef rib eye with fingerling potatoes, green beans and onion relish. He had me try the onion relish a few times to see if I could duplicate it at home, very nice. He had ordered the meat medium rare, it came more on the rare side, but he was perfectly happy with it (I cook our beef rare when I cook it.)
For dessert we shared an artisanal cheese plate, which had a great ratio of bread, nuts, fig paste and olives to cheeses.
The place was packed, to the point where seats at the bar were being reserved. Our waiter tried to keep up with all his tables, but was a bit overwhelmed. To his credit he took the stress in stride, we felt a bit neglected at times, and would have liked to have had more drinks before we finished our entreés, but he did well.
Not his fault, apparently a cell tower had burned down and they had been having intermittent Internet service, and so it was very difficult getting our credit card processed because there was a line for all the customers waiting to process the checks.
Our best dinner, best meal, of the weekend. I totally recommend this place.
