Saturday Brunch with GF's Parents

HI Chowhounders,

My girlfriend's parents will be in Toronto from out of town in mid-September and will be meeting my parents for the first time over Saturday brunch. I am trying to find a location that takes reservations, is quiet enough to have a conversation in and, obviously, has good food. The hope is to find a place that isn't expensive (around $13ish per main) in the northern downtown core (Bathurst-Yonge-Dupont-Dundas). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

You might want to consider LePappillon on Eastern Avenue. Good food with lots to chose from, nice patio if you like - although if stairs are an issue you may prefer to stay inside - and the prices for the most part are within your range.

It's got a nice vibe and easy to carry on conversations.

Good luck....hope it all goes well. Let us know where you end up.

Pauper's Pub. Certainly not upscale but I have never had a bad brunch and the price is right.

Try just a little further south and go for Le Select.

LeSelect was my first choice but I did not mention it as I believe it's not within budget.

You're probably right. The egg dishes are all between $14 and $15 while the "mains" are between $16 and $20. I think the budget trouble would begin when the sides and the mimosa's are added to the fray. Tough to say no to sparkling wine and orange juice :)

Yes, and the lunch menu is even higher.

This is a little northeast of the area that you're thinking about, but what about Simple Bistro on Mt Pleasant?

Harbord House, or White Brick Kitchen?
