Sweet Island (frozen) Yogurt - new joint in downtown Rochester [DTW]

Took my kid to the new “Sweet Island Yogurt” today, in downtown Rochester. It is a self-serve frozen custard/yogurt & toppings place, across the street from Rojo at 402 Main St. (no guilt-by-geographic-association intended). The interior is still under construction but looks pretty cool; or, extremely cool if you happen to be one of those Jimmy Buffet freaks.

I pulled myself a fat free (ff is out of character for me, but it looked sweet so I was feeling guilty) Key Lime frozen yogurt and put fresh diced mango on it. Really very good. My kid got the apparently popular frozen custard, but I couldn’t try it because it was carefully guarded and because he had put gummy worms and fluorescent sour marzipan thingies on it, with sprinkles to boot. I’ll be back next time to try the frozen custard on MY terms.

The price was fair and the people were nice. And, oh yes, the manager looks like she could still be the captain of a championship high school cheer squad (which maybe she was, six to eight years ago?), and I mean that in a good way.

PS---What would any first class frozen soft serve place be, without tropical fruit slushy machines? They have those too. If you see me carrying one of those around on the street next week at the Rochester Art and Apples Fest, you can be sure that it has already discretely rendezvoused in the alley with a hip flask of 151. So, be sure to stop me and say “Hi” (unless you are a law enforcement officer, that is).

PPS---Sweet Island says it is open until 11pm, seven days a week. I hope this adds momentum to the much needed night owl scene, as these are few and far between in the burbs.
