Recommend similar cuisine to Shunju?

Hi hounds, am leaving for Tokyo today and lately on my trips I have always had a dinner at Shunju in Shibuya (I go 2-3 times a year for business). I personally find the seasonal veggies, grilled meats, clay pot rice dishes etc to be delicious, though I've heard other reviews suggest the cuisine is mediocre at best.

Can someone recommend a similar restaurant- with a focus on seasonal produce and simple grilled proteins- that maybe is culinarily superior to Shunju for me to try?

Price is no object (though prefer more casual environment to more stuffy), and I stay at Cerulean Tower so would prefer something in Shibuya/Shinjuku or else a 10-15 min cab ride from hotel.

Really appreciate any suggestions!

  1. I like Shunju's food, and FWIW the collective wisdom of Tabelog seems to agree. You might like Nakamura (03-6427-9580), about five or six minutes south of Shibuya station on the east side - they have a good sake selection and nice decor and atmosphere as well, although the service isn't quite stellar.

thanks for the suggestion, i will look into it! i agree that shunju's food is very good, i live in NYC and am extremely picky about where i dine, and have always been very satisfied there- i'd say it's one of my favorite places to eat in the world, actually. although i often wonder if i enjoy the food at shunju so much b/c it's slightly more westernized in its approach? who knows...but i will check out nakamura!
