No reservation places in London - thoughts?

  • 7

I'm thinking of trying a no reservation place with a Chowfriend who's over from the States in September. I have an inherent dislike of queuing for dinner, which I should probably get over, given that no reservations joints are becoming more and more popular!

So bearing in mind it will be a Sunday evening, I'd love to hear my fellow Chowhounders opinions of which are worth the wait (and how long that wait might be). We'd prefer it if we could leave our number, and head somewhere for a drink or three. I'm thinking Pizarro might be a good choice, but am open to suggestions.

TIA!

  1. I really do like the Corner Room at the Town Hall Hotel - and you can wait in the lovely Viajante cocktail bar.

I've heard Pizarro is great though.

I'll second Corner Room. I literally got back from there fifteen minutes ago. The place was almost empty on Sunday night. All the food was as inventive as advertised, and reasonably proceed. Probably my favorite meal of my trip.

I started with the pig's trotters which was not at all what I was expecting. Main of pork and bread pudding, which was my favourite; I've never had bread pudding before but this was not sweet, and hada meaty flavor. Only misfire was the apricot dessert, was too similar to a dish I had last month.

This helps a lot. I'm not a pork eater, so I'm thinking this isn't the place for me. Sounds wonderful for you though.

There are plenty of non-pork dishes at the Corner Room, the seafood and vegetable dishes I've had there have been excellent.

    2. Big recommendation for Barrafina in Soho (probably my favourite mid range restaurant in town), also Bocca di Lupo (bar places kept free for walk ins) and Duck Soup

Pizarro is also good though i'd recommend Soho over Bermondsey if you are venturing out without a reservation. Soho has endless great options if your first choice is busy. Having said that, on a Sunday evening queues are probably not a major concern..
