South Charlotte -- recommendations for a nice place to celebrate a birthday?
Hi all,
My father is turning 70 next Monday and we'd like to take 6 people out to dinner to celebrate. My parents live in Ballantyne and are new to the area, so I thought I'd turn here for some advice. I see some great recommendations (mostly around Uptown). I'm leaning toward 5Church but wanted to check and see if anyone could suggest something closer by? We're looking for really good quality food and a pleasant atmosphere. Fish, seafood, and lamb would all be pluses.
Many thanks in advance!

Ilios Noche is in that neck of the woods and is one of my favorite places. Consistently great food and now with a great new atmosphere. They recently remodeled and now it's got the great atmosphere to go along with the delicious food. I highly recommend their braised lamb over orzo - it's everyone's favorite. Their diver scallops over hummous are to die for and the desserts never disappoint. Polenta cake w/ basil ice cream and macerated mixed berries - oh my! http://xeniahospitality.com/ilios-noche/
Another option is Blackthorne in the Ballantyne area. The food is not quite as good as Ilios Noche but it's got good food in a nice atmosphere and meets your criteria. http://blackthornerestaurant.com/
Global is another option. Again, it's in Ballantyne and it's upscale dining. I haven't been in quite a while but the French born chef is quite talented. The atmosphere is nice, although not as nice as the other recs. But the food is probably more refined and "formal". http://global-restaurant.com/
Enjoy!

I'll always recommend Global for a nice dinner in Ballantyne. It is pricey, not sure what range you're aiming for. Nearby, Gallery at the Ballantyne Resort is also great, nice, and pricey.
Trio on Hwy 51 at McMullen Creek is cheaper and more informal. Definitely not as adventurous as 5Church or Gallery but I like it for groups.
lynnlato's recommendation for Ilios Noche is a good one. I didn't realize they remodeled.

The remodel is amazing! You should check it out. They expanded into the space next door, and warmed up the interior w/ stained wood beams and added cozy booths, mirrors and lots of texture. They also completely revamped their menu and are making some quality crafted cocktails too (probably the best I've had in the QC).
