Looking for good quality supermarket sushi? Go to Tozai Market (SGV)
Good quality supermarket sushi? Oxymoron, you say?
Well maybe, but it's all relative, right?
So if you want something better than Whole Foods, Ralphs or Pavilions, and you are in the SGV, then I urge you to try Tozai Market.
It's a little mom-and-pop operation that's half market, half deli and pretty much all Japanese.
Prices are fair and portions are generous and the fish is fresh, and the service is warm and generous.
But let's be clear. This *is* supermarket sushi. So don't go there and start comparing and complaining that it's not Zo or Mori or Shunji or whatever.

it's not bad for the price. 6 pieces of battera for $4.75. (mackerel/konbu only) $5.75 for 6 pieces, 2 each mackerel/konbu, salmon and what looked like unagi.
more significantly, (for me anyway) i note that it was lunchtime, and 3 japanese ahead of me in line all got sushi.
