Near Phili airport for work

I wil be staying near the Philadelphia airport working with a colleague and need some dinner suggestions. Are there any decent restaurants north of the airport? I am not familiar with the area and wonder if there is something local rather than cabbing to downtown each night. All cuisines are good (we are both adventuresome eaters) and we don't need anything over the top - just good food. Thanks!

We are staying at the Fairfield Inn on Bartram ave. Didn't know if there was anything in the neighborhoods to the north of that area, or whether we should just cab/train it into the city center.

I wouldn't go wandering into the neighborhood north of there.

Definitely cab or train to the city from there. The Airport train line has a stop very close to there but I don't know if there's a safe way to walk there from your hotel (I mean "safe" in a car vs. pedestrian way). Get off the train at Market East or Suburban Station and you'll be in Center City and can basically go anywhere.

You can actually cross Bartram Ave right by the hotel and there is a ped path to Eastwick station. But as I mentioned below check line advisories on first, there is construction going on and Eastwick is affected.

      2. There isn't anything right by the airport that I would recommend, but you're really not that far from South Philly, Univ City, or Center City. There is a train from the airport to Univ City/Center City, but you could also take a cab or bus to South Philly. Lots of good food to be had there. Try the South Philly Tap Room, Le Virtu, Fond, or the newly opened BYOB, Will.

Yeah there really is nothing there, especially if you don't have your own wheels. Once you need to get in a cab to go anywhere you may as well go to Center City (downtown) since you can take the train and it is much cheaper -- cab fare to Center City is a flat rate of $28.50 each way, going to South Philly would be metered but come out about the same. The train is $10 round trip, and you could also get a weekly TransPass for $22, which will give you unlimited rides on buses and subways in town as well as cover the train. There is also a daily "independence pass" for $11 that will pay for the train and unlimited bus/subway rides for one day. You can take the subway from Center City to the E Passyunk area of South Philly, which is where most of the restaurants urban recommended are.

One caveat -- the airport line goes under reconstruction starting Sept 4, so train service will be hourly instead of every 30 minutes on weekends and on weeknights after 8pm.

        2. If you don't have a car, I'd suggest calling the hotel to see what range the shuttle will accommodate. Most airport hotels have one and they may service Swarthmore, Media, or South Philly depending on the radius.
